Constructed in 1930, Sunbeam Home was the was literally the new home for Oklahoma City orphans after the previous building on the same site was declared a "firetrap." This concrete and brick structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing resource to the Mesta Park Historic District. As Sunbeam Family Services evolved and grew, the need for new facilities was clear. The organization moved into their new building in 2015.
Working closely together, Midtown Builders and Preservation and Design Studio reimagined the building as 13 unique apartments maximizing the retention of the special character defining historic features throughout.
PandDStudio served as architect and historic preservation specialist for this certified historic preservation tax credits project now known as Sunbeam Apartments. The project was awarded State Historic Preservation Officer's Citation of Merit.
